The Director of the State EMS Authority has sent an urgent request for additional mental health providers to support shelters and facilities in the numerous NorCal Fires. At this time, they are requesting any licensed providers to register on the State Disaster Health Volunteer system:

This link will take you to the Disaster Healthcare Volunteers landing page and registration option. You should enter your local county from the drop down box options on the registration page.

California Statewide Fire Summary Sunday, October 15, 2017

  • There are now 15 large wildfires across California.
  • 75,000 are currently evacuated from their homes.
  • 5,700 structures are destroyed.
  • 217,566 acres have burned
  • The death toll has risen to 40 people.

There is a tremendous acute and long term impact and mental health professionals are needed right now to help. We need to rally to support our own state with more of our colleagues than ever before in recent history. Please spread the word to your licensed colleagues.

  • If you are a licensed counselor in Northern California, read the urgent request from the State EMS Authority
  • If you are in the Bay Area, SFGATE has ideas of how you can help. Sonoma County officials advise that those needing to report a missing person can call 707-565-3856.
  • If you are in the Anaheim Hills area, the City of Anaheim and the Red Cross continue to update information.
  • If you are trained as a Disaster Mental Health volunteer, contact your local American Red Cross Chapter.
  • Wherever you are, you can donate to the American Red Cross which will distribute disaster relief aid.

The Board of Behavioral Sciences is in need of LPCC subject matter experts for examination development.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in professional examination development for LPCC’s. Such examinations could not exist without the willingness of the Board’s licensees, to assist with this important responsibility.

Workshops are conducted throughout the year in Sacramento. Compensation for SMEs varies, depending on the length and complexity of each workshop, and is generally around $200 to $300 per day. Participants who travel 50 miles or more each way to workshops, receive reimbursement for travel expenses. Types of workshops include item (question) writing and review, passing score setting, clinical vignette writing and review, and examination construction. Interested licensees can apply via our website by completing an online questionnaire.   View Questionnaire >>
