CALPCC is pleased to offer our first Business Development Lab Series presentation. Mehek Mohan will be speaking on behalf of Kahani about increased access to eating disorder care. We hope you will join us! Details below.
Increasing Access to Eating Disorder Care through Digital Solutions
Eating disorders have surged since the pandemic, with 50% of study participants altering their diets due to social media and nearly half of Instagram users exhibiting symptoms of anorexia nervosa. Despite the rising prevalence, access to effective treatment remains limited, with average waitlists spanning 5 months and 2x relapse rates within six months of treatment completion. Kahani addresses these gaps through a digital health platform that complements traditional therapy by providing continuous, personalized support to patients between sessions.
Designed in collaboration with Stanford clinical psychologists, Kahani integrates real-time assessment and dynamic micro-interventions to reinforce therapeutic skills, enhance accountability, and mitigate relapse risk. The platform offers a dual solution: a patient-facing recovery app tailored to individual needs and a clinician dashboard for monitoring progress, identifying potential setbacks, and optimizing recovery trajectories.
Pilot results demonstrate promising outcomes: 34 patients from six countries reported a 20% improvement in EDEQS scores, a 23% decrease in GAD7 scores, and increased daily engagement. With over 90 unique downloads and a waitlist of 100+ patients, Kahani leverages gamification, AI-driven support, and evidence-based therapeutic frameworks to bridge the 167-hour gap between weekly sessions and reduce relapse risk. If interested in offering this as an option for patients, please email me at mmehek@stanford.edu.
