Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
Requirements for LPCCs
Licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCCs) are required to complete 36 continuing education (CE) hours every 2 years before their renewal period. Of these 36 hours, 6 hours must be in Law & Ethics, which is a requirement for every renewal period. The remaining 30 hours can be earned in any area of CE.
During the initial renewal period, LPCCs renewing their license for the first time must complete an additional 7 hours of HIV/AIDS education. This requirement is only applicable to the initial renewal period.
The Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) frequently updates the CE requirements. To find the most up-to-date information, click on the Continuing Education Summary Chart found on the BBS website.
Can Continuing Education Units (CEUs) be applied to more than one license?
Yes, as long as the training is appropriate for each license.
How To Earn CE Hours
CEU hours can be earned through a variety of activities, including attending workshops, taking online courses, or publishing articles. CALPCC is an approved CEU provider, with a catalog of online courses. To find more information about approved CEU providers, visit our CEU providers page.
