From Mood Swings to Milestones: A Pediatrician Talks Parenting Teens Today
Parenting teens can often feel like navigating constant change, emotional intensity, and uncertainty. What may appear as moodiness or conflict is often rooted in normal adolescent development, shaped by complex biological, emotional, and social changes. This presentation offers an insightful exploration of the underlying “pathology” of typical teen behavior, helping clinicians better support the parents they work with in understanding and responding to these shifts.
Dr. Gagnon bridges scientific evidence with practical, real-world strategies, providing guidance on how to help parents approach adolescence with clarity and confidence. Participants will learn how to support parents in building open communication, maintaining consistency, and fostering resilience and self-esteem in their teens. The session also highlights key challenges facing today’s adolescents, including social media influences, neurodivergence, and chronic health conditions, and offers actionable approaches to strengthen parent-teen relationships and promote healthy development. Participants will leave with practical tools they can immediately apply to support parents in navigating the challenges of raising teenagers with greater confidence, connection, and success.
