The California Association for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (CALPCC) is excited to announce the 2026 CALPCC Conference, taking place October 17–18, 2026, immediately following the CALPCC Student Symposium on October 16. This year’s conference theme, “LPCCs in Practice: Identity, Innovation, and Impact,” explores what it truly means to be an LPCC in 2026 and how our profession continues to evolve across diverse practice settings, specialties, and systems of care.
Designed for both emerging and experienced clinicians, the conference will bring together LPCCs from across California to engage in meaningful dialogue, skill-building workshops, and forward-looking discussions about the future of the counseling profession. Attendees will explore how LPCCs are shaping mental health care across sectors while strengthening clinical excellence, professional identity, and leadership within the field.
The conference will feature workshops and presentations that support LPCCs working in a wide range of practice environments, including education and school-based mental health, community mental health and nonprofit settings, hospital and integrated care systems, private and group practices, substance use treatment, and crisis or higher-level care. Sessions will highlight both foundational clinical skills and the complexities of working within diverse systems of care.
In addition to traditional practice areas, the conference will explore specialized and emerging areas of counseling practice, including LGBTQIA+ affirming care, consensual non-monogamy and alternative relationship structures, neurodivergent-affirming practice, trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, and intersectionality within clinical work. These sessions will provide clinicians with practical strategies for delivering ethical, inclusive, and identity-aware care in a rapidly evolving mental health landscape.
A key focus of the conference will also be innovation and the future of counseling, including conversations around AI in clinical practice, technology and telehealth, new service delivery models, and program development. These sessions will examine both the opportunities and ethical considerations that accompany technological change and evolving client needs.
Beyond clinical skills, the conference will also address professional identity, leadership, and advocacy within the LPCC profession. Participants will engage in discussions on ethics, scope of practice, regulatory updates, supervision and training of future clinicians, and the role of LPCCs in shaping mental health systems, policy, and community care.
Recognizing the importance of long-term sustainability in the field, the conference will also include sessions focused on career longevity and professional well-being, including burnout prevention, financial literacy for clinicians, private practice sustainability, and strategies for building meaningful careers that evolve over time.
Whether you are early in your career or a seasoned clinician, the CALPCC Conference is designed to meet you where you are and help expand what is possible in your professional journey. Attendees can expect thoughtful dialogue, practical tools, and opportunities to connect with colleagues who are shaping the future of the LPCC profession across California.
